I'd encourage uploading them here (as long the Terms of Service/License allow). The Distributed Proofreaders team has a pretty specific workflow and set of guidelines which might not be compatible with donated works (but you should ask).

Popular works in IA can have many editions. If you enter good quality metadata so that the new edition is found along with all the other editions, it should, hopefully, become more used over time, particularly as the discovery portion of IA and OpenLibrary is improved.

Okay so, that's for Out of Copyright works but what about the ones which are in Copyright, like the book which I borrowed from OpenLibrary which is "Sweetheart, Sweetheart" by Bernard Taylor[https://archive.org/details/sweetheartsweeth00tayl]. Can I convert it after borrowing it and then upload it to Internet Archive?( after which I could follow the steps in FAQ[https://openlibrary.org/help/faq/about#upload] )
I would like to know about this. Thank you for your time.

It would be illegal for copyright works.

Oh, well looks like nothing can be done about that at the moment.
But well having contacted Openlibrary too about this, they say something along the lines of, "There is no way to do this yet."
Well anyway thanks for letting me know.

Yes true. I'd be curious what DP requires. I've been slowly proofreading an IA text (PDF I originally scanned and uploaded) and will upload the final draft here first, but will also see if DP will take it, but haven't gotten that far yet. I'm creating it in LaTeX so it looks beautiful, like a professional book, including some original but few footnotes and maybe a brief factual intro. The DP would obviously be the plain text ascii version. Using LyX a great free utility for this sort of thing.

Actually DP has gotten much more sophisticated in their post-processing recently and now generate HTML editions with embedded images as a matter of course.

For your project, you might want to consider looking into contributing your scans at the front of their pipeline. The project admin (you) gets to determine, proofing guidelines (original spelling vs modernized, etc), transcription conventions and all kinds of other stuff. You'll get multi-pass proofread text out the backend which you can then post-process as you see fit. They're set up to deal with footnotes and all kinds of other arcane stuff.
